Led by IB Trainer Andrew Watson, the two-day Workshop enhances our teachers’ understanding of the Extended Essay and its impact on our students’ learning journey.
On November 11 and 12, thirteen of our Diploma Programme teachers took part in an IB Category 2 Extended Essay Workshop, hosted at H-International School Vicenza.
The training, led by Mr. Andrew Watson (IB Trainer), brought together educators from across different disciplines to deepen their understanding of the Extended Essay process and strengthen the school’s collaborative approach to supporting students’ academic research.

Organised by Mr. David Coppard (Head of Programme) and Mr. Elia Pizzolato (Extended Essay Coordinator), the workshop provided two days of hands-on reflection, discussion, and sharing of best practices.
Through guided activities and collaborative sessions, teachers explored how the Extended Essay connects to the wider IB philosophy, fostering inquiry, independence, and critical thinking.
As Mr. Watson shared in his introduction, the Extended Essay is more than an academic requirement: “It’s an opportunity for students, teachers, and the school community to engage meaningfully with learning, in and beyond the Diploma Programme.”
