Learning how research begins with courage and passion with Dr. Michele Bevere

“Be brave in following your ambition. Doing research is demanding, both professionally and personally. It’s not just a beautiful job; it’s a life choice carried out entirely for the benefit of patients.”

This was the inspiring message that Dr. Michele Bevere shared with our MYP and DP students during his talk, part of the “AIRC in Schools” program.
The event introduced students to the work of AIRC (Associazione Italiana per la Ricerca sul Cancro – Italian Association for Cancer Research), a pioneering foundation that, for over 60 years, has supported cancer research, funding hundreds of projects across hospitals and universities throughout Italy.

Dr. Bevere, a postdoctoral researcher at Borgo Roma Hospital (University of Verona) spoke to more than fifty students about the crucial role of cancer research in today’s society. He shed light on the importance of prevention, healthy habits, and informed lifestyle choices.

His first rule of prevention? Don’t smoke.

Our students had the chance to engage directly with an experienced scientist, asking thoughtful questions about the state of international cancer research and discovering, through a professional’s personal story, how every step toward a cure is built on years of teamwork and dedication.

By the end of the event, one message resonated deeply: scientific research isn’t just about microscopes and data; it’s about courage, collaboration, and commitment to others.
